Our Story
Established in 1924
Since its establishment in 1924, Lock Farms has grown through the dedication of the Lock family. What began as a mixed operation of grain and commercial cattle has evolved into a diversified landscape, featuring both Horned and Polled purebred Hereford, which also includes both Angus breeds.
Currently, Lock Farms Ltd manages approximately 350 cow/calf pairs and cultivates around 5,000 acres of crops. Our crop program features an array of pulses and cereal grains, including lentils, faba beans, corn, and flax, with a dedicated portion reserved for a grass/alfalfa hay mix, enriching our crop rotations. The foundation of our livestock feed comprises high-quality hay and silage.
Active participation in cattle shows such as the Lloydminster Stockade Round-up and Alberta Hereford Showcase plays a significant role in marketing our genetics for our annual Premier Hereford and Angus Bull Sale, held every first Monday of February at the Northern Livestock Sales in Lloydminster.
Beyond agriculture, our commitment to family and community shines through our involvement in local sports. Whether cheering from the sidelines of hockey rinks, football fields, or basketball court, sports hold a special place in our lives. Coffee breaks often coincide with watching a hockey or football game. Kim and her husband, Brian with their two boys, Colton and Blake, are located around Lacombe. Amy and her husband, Ryan and their kids, Austin, Liam, Harper and Aubrey farm around Senlac.
Stan and Susan, are passionate about the Hereford breed, which Stan has received his 50 years designation from the Canadian Hereford Association in 2024. Jonathan, and his wife Kaleen, and their family have focused their expertise on the Angus herd. With allows both breeds to be utilized in the Lock Farms commercial cattle herd.
